2021 Challenge

UPDATE: It rained all morning the day after Thanksgiving, so we postponed our walk. The Traynor family will now be walking the 17.5 miles between our two usual event venues to help fund cancer research at Memorial Sloan Kettering Cancer Center on Sunday, November 28th.

The Challenge

Friends of the Bud Traynor Memorial Fund know we have two favorite places to host events for our organization - Bethpage State Park Golf Course and the beach at Port Washington Estates.

Three times before, the Traynor family has walked the nearly18 miles from the beach to the first tee of the Red Course to raise funds to fight cancer. Each time, the walk took about 6 hours and some heavily bruised feet, but we did it. You all supported us with generous donations that went straight to the Research team at Memorial Sloan Kettering.

2020: what we thought was the last cOVID times walk!

We really hope 2022 is the year we can return to a leisurely stroll with you all around the 18 holes of a lovely golf course, but for this year, looks like we’re walking the Long Island Expressway again.

If you’d like to sponsor The Traynor Family as we walk on November 26th from PWEA Beach in Port Washington to the first tee of the Red Course at Bethpage, click the link below.  All proceeds fund research at Memorial sloan kettering cancer Center.

Googlemaps tells us it’s 17.5 miles (google doesn’t know about the construction detours ;)

Bernard “Bud” Traynor
1934-2003

Bud Traynor was a man who simply loved his life.

Happily married for 36 years, with two grown children, Bud was a kind and generous man who liked nothing better than being surrounded by friends and family - a group that included pretty much everyone he’d ever met. His enthusiasm and joie d’vivre were infectious: it was difficult to avoid a smile when he was telling a joke or describing how he finally - FINALLY- had solved the problem with his golf swing.

It's in dedication to Bud’s lifelong passion for the game that we have established The Bud Traynor Classic tournament in his memory.  Tournament events are played every two years.  And on the 'down' years, we walk from one of Bud’s favorite spots in the world to another: the beach near the Family Traynor home to the golf courses at Bethpage.

The Bud Traynor Memorial Fund

The Bud Traynor Classic is an annual fund-raising event for the The Bud Traynor Memorial Fund, Inc., a 501( c)3 organization.

The Fund is a non-profit group that is dedicated to providing financial support to organizations on the leading edge of cancer treatment and research.

The goal of the fund is to aid in the search for a cure for cancer and to improve the quality of life of those living with the disease. The Fund and the tournament have been established in memory or our cherished friend Bernard "Bud" Traynor who lost his battle with lung cancer on February 26th, 2003.
